L’Aigail, a community gite
The Aigail Gite story could only have ocurred in a rural area like this one! In 2011, the commune of Saint-Sauvant, who owned a collection of old dilapidated buildings in the centre of the village, decided to rennovate them with a view to preserving the historical features of the buildings. They recruited some local trainee buiders from the SEI Association thereby boosting the local economy and also preserving the local heritage.
This meant that between 2012 and 2016, around 8 to 10 employees from SEI (with the support of permanent staff and volunteers of the SEI Association) and under the careful guidance of the architect, managed to rennovate this old ruin and transform it into what is now a warm, welcoming, large and fully functional gite.
This large project benefitted from a considerable amount of support from local partners in the region which enabled the official opening to take place in July 2016. Since this date, the second team of trainees have been recruited covering the areas of management of the welcome area and the maintenance section.
